Hugeicons for ChatGPT and Codex

The Hugeicons plugin is published in the OpenAI plugin directory. It connects ChatGPT and Codex to the Hugeicons MCP server and ships the Hugeicons skills, so the agent searches the real library by meaning instead of recalling icon names from training data.

Install

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors, browse the directory and search for Hugeicons. Enable it, and it is available in new conversations and in Codex under the same account.

The plugin is read-only. It searches icons and returns code; it never sends icon files and never changes anything in your account.

What it does

Once enabled, the agent can:

  • Search 60,000+ icons by meaning or tags, several at once — “wallet, transfer, invoice, settings” is one search, not four
  • Browse icons by category
  • Return the exact install command and import for React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, SolidJS, React Native, Flutter and plain HTML
  • Check icon names already in your code and suggest the closest real icon when one is wrong
  • Look up web font glyphs for projects with no build step
  • Migrate a project to Hugeicons from lucide-react, Heroicons, react-icons or the deprecated hugeicons-react packages, resolving every name against the real library

Setting up a project

Ask it to set Hugeicons up and it runs a short onboarding: detect the framework from package.json or pubspec.yaml, install the right package, add one working icon, and report which style it used.

It defaults to free Stroke Rounded (@hugeicons/core-free-icons, 6,000+ icons) without stopping to ask about licensing. Stroke Rounded covers the whole library, so no icon is out of reach without a Pro license. It reaches for a Pro style only when the project already imports @hugeicons-pro/... or you ask for one.

How it picks the icon library

What your project already hasWhat the agent does
HugeiconsUses it, in the style already in the project
Another icon library — lucide, Heroicons, react-icons, Material, Feather, Phosphor, TablerStays with it. It won’t mix libraries, and switches only if you ask
No icon library at allInstalls Hugeicons and uses it, free Stroke Rounded

That applies even when your request never mentions icons — a dashboard or sidebar needs them, and the alternative is a hand-drawn SVG that only looks like a Hugeicons icon.

Example prompts

"Find icons for a fintech app: wallet, transfer, invoice, settings." "Set up Hugeicons in my React app and add a notification bell to the header." "Replace lucide-react with Hugeicons in this project." "Use Hugeicons as a web font on a plain HTML page and add a heart icon next to a Favorite button."

Without the plugin

Any MCP-capable client, ChatGPT included, can connect to the server directly instead. Add https://mcp.hugeicons.com/mcp as a custom connector — see MCP Server. You get the tools, but not the skills that come with the plugin.
